Newswise — The American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) is piloting regional meetings beginning in 2019. The first one, designed for a teaching-intensive audience, will be held on May 31, 2019, at the University of Georgia, Athens.
“Teaching Tomorrow’s Scientists: An ASCB Regional Meeting” is a day-long meeting that will include education research and scientific plenaries, a poster session, networking lunch, afternoon workshops, and mixer. Abstracts are invited for 75-minute workshop sessions appropriate for undergraduate biology educators (due by March 4). Abstracts are also invited for posters presenting educational innovations, education research, and science research (due by April 20). There is no submission fee for either type of abstract. The general deadline for meeting registration is May 24. The cost is $40 for ASCB members and $50 for nonmembers.

The science research plenary will be presented by Dorothy Lerit, Assistant Professor of Cell Biology, Emory University School of Medicine, on “Uncovering Novel Paradigms of Centrosome Regulation.” The education research plenary, by Julie Stanton, Assistant Professor of Cell Biology, University of Georgia, and Birook Mekonnen, Graduate Co-Researcher, University of Georgia, is on “Recognizing the Community Cultural Wealth of Successful Black Science Majors.”
