Newswise — CHICAGO – The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics Foundation is accepting scholarship applications for the 2019-2020 school year. The application period runs through April 22.

“I am grateful for my scholarship, which represents inclusion and commitment to the nutrition and dietetics field,” says Alma Lebrato, a 2018 recipient of the Commission on Dietetics Registration Diversity Scholarship and an intern at Sea Mar Community Health Centers in Seattle. “As an immigrant and a minority, the Foundation’s recognition inspires me to share my perspective and knowledge with the people who I serve.”

The Foundation, which is the only nonprofit dedicated exclusively to supporting nutrition and dietetics, awarded more than $534,000 in scholarships to 234 students for the 2018-2019 academic year at the undergraduate, graduate and dietetic internship levels.

“The Foundation is proud to support the future leaders of nutrition and dietetics through our robust scholarship program,” said registered dietitian nutritionist and Foundation Chair Martin Yadrick. “We are especially grateful to our extremely generous Academy members who enable us to continue providing dietetic students with the support they need to help them realize their dreams.”

The Foundation is the largest provider of scholarships in the nutrition and dietetics field. It awarded more than $2.5 million in scholarships during the past five years to more than 1,500 students.

Scholarships are funded by individual donors, the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics’ state and regional dietetic associations, dietetic practice groups and organizations, including Colgate-Palmolive Company, the Commission on Dietetic Registration, ConAgra Foods, Campbell Soup Company and Mead Johnson Nutrition.
