Binghamton University Graduate Programs Earn High Rankings in U.S. News and World Report Guide


Newswise — BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Sixteen of Binghamton University’s graduate programs are ranked among the nation’s best in the 2020 edition of U.S. News & World Report’s Best Graduate Schools rankings.

Thirteen programs are in the top 100 of their disciplines: clinical psychology, earth sciences, economics, English, history, mathematics, political science, psychology, public affairs, social work. business, engineering and sociology. Engineering, nursing, education and mathematics all moved up from the prior year.

The University’s engineering program made the biggest leap, up 32 spots from #127 in last year’s rankings to #95 this year, with education close behind, moving up 31 spots from #158 to #127.

“These rankings underscore the excellence Binghamton University has across the board at the graduate level,” said President Harvey Stenger. “As we continue to raise our research profile and national reputation with our Carnegie classification as a very high research university, our focus on graduate student recruitment and the education they receive at Binghamton will also draw attention. Graduate education remains a high priority for our campus.”

The Best Graduate Schools rankings are based on expert opinions about program excellence and statistical indicators that measure the quality of a school’s faculty, research and students.

Rankings data come from statistical surveys of more than 2,054 programs and reputation surveys sent to more than 22,018 academics and professionals, conducted in fall 2018 and early 2019.
