WHAT:  Students and scientists will embark on a six-day expedition aboard the University of Rhode Graduate School of Oceanography (GSO) Research Vessel (R/V) Endeavor to conduct oceanographic research focused on whale, zooplankton and environmental interactions that occur in the coastal and offshore waters of Southeastern New England. Learning more about these interactions is essential to management and conservation decisions for marine species, such as the critically endangered North Atlantic right whale. Supported by the URI Inner Space Center, students and scientists onboard the ship will also broadcast live, on Earth Day (April 22), to classrooms around the country.

WHO:  Eleven students from the URI Honors Program, led by Dr. Melissa Omand, assistant professor of oceanography, and Christopher Orphanides, chief scientist and GSO graduate student, along with GSO and National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists, and ISC education and video production personnel.

WHEN: Thursday, April 18, 2019 through Tuesday, April 23, 2019

WHERE: The URI Inner Space Center has the capacity to support remote interviews over the course of the six-day voyage. To make arrangements, contact Andrea Gingras ([email protected]; mobile 401-954-0065).
