Newswise — CHICAGO - Over 4,200 dental professionals and other oral health care providers attended the American Association of Endodontists’ annual meeting in Montréal, April 10-13.
The event, known as AAE19, was the premier go-to giving endodontists, dentists and other providers of oral health care a venue to talk about the latest developments in the specialty and network. It also hosted 150 educational opportunities and classes with topics ranging from responsible pain management in the era of the opioid crisis to chronic sinus infections and their possible correlations to root canal treatment.
One high point of AAE19 was the keynote address by Mike Walsh, a bestselling author and tech superstar. Walsh gave a spirited talk on the challenges business leaders face in the 21st century and the ways the medical community can help overcome similar obstacles.
The annual gathering also included the swearing in of new leadership for the Boards of the AAE, Foundation for Endodontics, and American Board of Endodontics. The four-day event also included a formal award ceremony bestowing the Association’s top honors meant to acknowledge several endodontists and other dental professionals for the dedication to dentistry.
At the direction of the Association’s Board, the AAE revised its Implant Position Statement, which was originally developed in 2007. In its revision, the AAE underscored the importance of savings one’s natural teeth over the mentality of “extract and replace.”
Members of the AAE and other attendees of the meeting also raised over $1,100 in donations to benefit the Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation, whose mission is to inspire and mobilize the community to support relentless innovation in research, teaching and care at the Montréal Children’s Hospital, the pediatric teaching hospital for McGill University’s Faculty of Medicine.
During the annual President’s Breakfast, Past-President Dr. Patrick E. Taylor talked about the Association’s accomplishments. He also presented Dr. Rick S. Schwartz with the Association’s prestigious “President’s Award”. Dr. Schwartz was recognized for his continued enhancement of knowledge and skills to the endodontic specialty and dental community.
Dr. Taylor also formally welcomed the Association’s new President-Elect, Dr. Keith V. Krell.
“It has been an honor to have served as president of AAE,” Dr. Taylor said. “Our Association has advanced our specialty for members and patients as a global resource for knowledge, research and education. Our various leaders, members and Association staff have won numerous prestigious awards, launched a comprehensive new ad campaign, and published dozens of articles featured in medical journals and the press. I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished and look forward to a bright future under Dr. Krell’s stewardship.”
