Newswise — HOUSTON, TX – The Houston Advanced Research Center (HARC) will feature Mr. Jigar Shah, co-founder of Generate Capital, at its next People and Nature Speaker Series.  Mr. Shah will discuss public and private sector investment in infrastructure and how to maintain resilience in the face of significant impacts of climate change. The program, which is open to the public, will take place Wednesday, May 1, from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at the University of Houston, Student Center South Theater (4800 Calhoun Rd, Houston, TX 77004).

“Given the important conversations that we are having in the Greater Houston region about climate, resilience, energy and the environment, attendees will be treated to an evening with one of the Nation’s top thinkers on innovation and investment,” said HARC President and CEO Lisa Gonzalez. “Bring your questions and hear Jigar’s thoughts on the future of clean tech and the roles that innovation and the public and private sectors can play in scaling up new technologies. As with all HARC programs, we seek to provide solutions to complex challenges and inform decision makers across the public and private sectors.”

Private and public sector, nonprofit, energy sector professionals and all support industries should plan to attend. The event is co-hosted by UH Energy, an umbrella group for energy-related efforts at the University of Houston, working with the energy industry to produce a trained workforce, strategic and technical leadership, and research and development for needed innovations and new technologies.

“Building economic growth globally requires careful thought to the role of energy and how to achieve aspirations through the lens of sustainable development,” said Ramanan Krishnamoorti, chief energy officer at UH. “This event is a part of our ongoing engagement with the community to promote a discussion on responsible development of the energy industry and how it transitions to one that builds on sustainable development.”

The public event will feature an interactive presentation, followed by a reception. Tickets are available now and may be purchased at http://www.harcresearch.org/. Educators and students receive complimentary admission, thanks to the generous support of Walter P Moore, the event’s sponsor.
