USU's Consortium for Health and Military Performance Releases New Version of Operation Supplement Safety Website
6-May-2019 12:05 PM EDT
Newswise — Bethesda, MD - Warfighters, health care providers, leaders, family members, and the general public can now view an A-Z ingredient index at their fingertips from the top navigation of Operation Supplement Safety (OPSS.org) as well as see a list of ingredients prohibited by the Department of Defense (DoD). Users can also check the safety of their own supplements by using an interactive risk scorecard directly from the homepage.
Of course many of the current OPSS website features will remain, most notably the ability to “Ask the Expert” a dietary supplement-related question, a portal to report side effects experienced from taking a dietary supplement, and access to many educational articles (including “Quick Facts”), videos, infographics, and handouts.
Other popular features include the OPSS High-Risk Supplement List, which includes over 500 products, a live link to the Food and Drug Administrations’ list of tainted products, and the ability to “Rate Your Supplement” by accessing the Natural Medicines database. Importantly, Dr. Patricia Deuster reports that “Operation Supplement Safety is the military’s go to resource for all information related to dietary supplements and other self-care products. We make sure the information is accurate through our partnerships with many other Federal agencies.”
OPSS is a program under the Consortium for Health and Military Performance, a DoD Center of Excellence at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
