HIGH-DEDUCTIBLE INSURANCE PLANS MAY BE HAZARDOUS TO THE HEALTH OF COPD PATIENTS

Newswise — ATS 2019, Dallas, TX ─ Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or COPD, who are covered by a high-deductible insurance plan are more likely to forgo needed health care because of cost than COPD patients covered by lower-deductible plans, according to research presented at ATS 2019. The researchers found that patients in high-deductible plans were more likely to report skipping dosages of medications or delaying filling prescriptions, while also being more likely to go to the ER and be hospitalized than those COPD patients enrolled in low-deductible plans.
