AIRWAY MICROBIOME APPEARS ALTERED IN SEVERE ASTHMA LINKED TO NEUTROPHILS

Newswise — ATS 2019, Dallas, TX ─ The airway microbiome appears to be altered in patients with severe asthma linked to high levels of white blood cells called neutrophils, according to new research presented at ATS 2019. In these patients, the diversity of their microbiome was reduced, and the researchers believe that greater understanding of the relationship between neutrophils and the microbiome may lead to new, targeted asthma therapies.
