Lawrenceville, NJ, USA—June 11, 2019—ISPOR, the professional society for health economics and outcomes research (HEOR), announced the approval of the Society’s new Diversity and Inclusion Policy.

ISPOR has been committed to diversity and inclusion for a number of years. Its 2015-2019 Governance Initiative established diversity expectations and themes that were incorporated and actioned in new and revised policies and procedures, including the board of directors code of conduct, volunteer leadership code of conduct, regional chapter agreements, working group policies and guidelines, establishment of a New Professionals network and Women in HEOR initiative, funding of programs in emerging markets and geographies, the ISPOR code of ethics, and it’s business/staff operations based in the United States. These initiatives have resulted in significant progress. Today more than 50% of its board of directors is composed of female leaders and more than half live outside of North America. Nearly 80% of ISPOR’s staff are women and the majority of its executive team members are female.

The new Diversity and Inclusion Policy is a progression of this work and speaks to the commitment ISPOR’s board of directors and leadership have to reflecting the diversity of its membership in everything the Society does. As a global, multistakeholder, nonprofit organization, ISPOR focuses on a wide range of diversity dimensions that include (but are not limited to) gender, career stage, ethnicity, race, education, sexual orientation, region/geographic location, physical disability, and religion.

“ISPOR has long had a commitment to diversity and inclusion,” stated ISPOR CEO and Executive Director Nancy S. Berg. “The Diversity and Inclusion Policy is a progression of this work and more fully outlines the Society’s dedication to fully reflect the diversity of our global membership.”

“I am very excited to see the Diversity and Inclusion Policy approved during my term,” noted ISPOR President, Federico Augustovski, MD, MSc, PhD. “My term as president was committed to moving ISPOR forward as a diverse, innovative, and influential Society. The newly approved policy is an important milestone to appropriately represent the diversity of our membership.”
