Newswise — Milan, 2nd August 2019 - Last year the IFCC (International Federation of Clinical Chemistry and Laboratory Medicine) joined Abbott and other six leading healthcare organizations across the globe including AACC, EHMA, Modern Healthcare, HIMSS, NAHQ, and IHE, to launch the UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence Award.

The UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence Award annually recognizes interdisciplinary care teams who collaborate across disciplines and transform healthcare delivery, and ultimately patient lives. The programme’s goal is to inspire innovative solutions within healthcare that will positively affect patients, clinicians, payors, and health systems globally, to highlight best practices, inspire unity and to encourage novel, avant-garde ways of thinking, as the name UNIVANTS suggests.

This year, twelve innovative care teams are being recognized for excellence in measurably better healthcare performance:

  • 3 teams have been awarded the inaugural distinction of 2019 UNIVANTS of Healthcare Excellence WINNERS
  • 7 teams were finalists, receiving the honours of DISTINCTION
  • 2 teams were semi-finalists with honours of ACHIEVEMENT.

The 2019 awarded teams submitted care projects highlight the emerging power of informatics (43% involve algorithms and/or longitudinal analysis of clinical data for maximized patient care), an industry focus on prevention (moving from “sick” care to patient wellness), and the power of teamwork (stakeholder engagement within and outside core laboratory) for improved healthcare delivery.

More details associated with each of the winning teams are available at: UnivantsHCE.com.

The UnivantsHCE.com website is now accepting applications for 2020 award recognition. The Award is open to all healthcare professionals and professional teams regardless of affiliation.

Submissions must:

  • Demonstrate that an integrated clinical care team had a measurable impact on key performance indicators (KPIs) for patients, payors, clinicians, and entire health systems.
  • Highlight a clinical care team’s success against key programme attributes, including integrated teams that have used laboratory medicine in partnership with other teams to address unmet needs and/or gaps in care.
