Newswise — NEWPORT NEWS, VA –The U.S. Department of Energy's Thomas Jefferson National Accelerator Facility has announced that Camille Ginsburg will become the lab’s new director of accelerator operations Aug. 19, 2019.

Ginsburg will oversee the day-to-day Continuous Electron Beam Accelerator Facility operations with the overall mission to develop, implement and optimize reliability and performance. Additionally, she will provide strategic and tactical leadership of CEBAF operations in all technical areas, as well as oversee other on-site accelerators. Ginsburg will become an integral part of the senior management team for the Accelerator Division.

“I was drawn to the opportunity to contribute to the success of CEBAF and the whole accelerator program. I look forward to working with the Jefferson Lab accelerator operations team to build on efforts to reach CEBAF operational objectives and to enable cutting-edge research at the test facilities,” Ginsburg said.

Before joining Jefferson Lab, Ginsburg held the position of senior scientist serving as the deputy team lead for the Linac Coherent Light Source-II (LCLS-II) and cryomodule control account manager at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory. Ginsburg’s knowledge of particle physics is vast: she has worked extensively in international accelerator and detector operations at the Hadron Electron Ring Accelerator (HERA) and Tevatron colliders; she has experience in the design of large accelerators, such as the Next Generation Light Source (NGLS) and the LCLS-II; and most recently, has led large-scale superconducting radiofrequency cryomodule production.

I’ve had the pleasure of working with her previously and can say with certainty that the Jefferson Lab staff will really enjoy working with her.  “I have collaborated with Jefferson Lab on various projects since 2005 and have maintained a steady working relationship with the lab in years since. I have developed great respect for the technical capabilities and staff, and am excited to be joining the Jefferson Lab team,” Ginsburg said.

Ginsburg received a B.S. in physics from the University of California at Irvine. She also holds an M.S. in physics and a Ph.D. in experimental particle physics from Northwestern University. She has more than 600 publications to her credit spanning from experimental nuclear and particle physics to accelerator science and technology. Additionally, she has chaired, reviewed, lectured and served as a member on several dozen physics-related committees, groups and collaborations.
