Sullivan is co-founder of the Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities at Notre Dame, an institute that aims to identify the innovative, effective and scalable programs that help people move out of poverty. 

Last year, in collaboration with Bruce Meyer of the University of Chicago, Sullivan developed an online poverty dashboard tool that compares data over the past 50 years from their pioneering new poverty measure as well as poverty figures from the U.S. Census Bureau.
