Newswise — UWMC/ Seattle Cancer Care Alliance (SCCA), part of Washington state’s only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center, has been recognized as the 9th Best Cancer Hospital for 2020-21 by U.S. News & World Report, and the only ranked number one cancer hospital in the Pacific Northwest for more than ten years. The annual Best Hospitals rankings and ratings, now in their 31st year, are designed to assist patients and their doctors in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or for common elective procedures.
In addition to being recognized as a Best Hospital, SCCA earned “High Performing” ratings for colon cancer surgery and lung cancer surgery, in recognition of care that was significantly better than the national average, as measured by factors including patient outcomes. “High Performing” is the highest rating U.S. News awards for these types of care.

This means that in addition to reflecting our more than 20 year-long commitment to providing the highest-quality, patient-centered care, this year’s ranking underscores the tireless work of our physicians and patient-facing staff in ensuring our patients had access to the cancer care they needed even as we face a global health crisis that has greatly disrupted our community.”
For the 2020-21 rankings and ratings, U.S. News evaluated more than 4,500 medical centers nationwide in 26 specialties, 10 procedures and multiple conditions. In the 16 specialty areas, 134 hospitals were ranked in at least one specialty. In rankings by state and metro area, U.S. News recognized best regional hospitals based on high-performing rankings across multiple areas of care.
