Ashley Koning, director of Rutgers’ Eagleton Center for Public Interest Polling, is available for interviews ahead of, during and following the Republican National Convention this week.
“President Trump continues to trail Vice President Biden by a sizable margin in national polls - greater than any other incumbent president prior to their convention,” said Koning. “The president has a number of things going against him heading into his convention: the pandemic, protests, the economy, lackluster favorability, and declining support among white suburban voters. But we are still far out from Election Day with little expectation for a noticeable convention bump in the polls on either side. Given the general tightening of the race that will occur, greater enthusiasm among Trump voters, and the support late deciders gave Trump in 2016, anything can happen in the next two months.”
Koning, an expert in U.S. public opinion, survey design, polling trends and mass political behavior with a focus on gender and race, is an assistant research professor at Rutgers’ Eagleton Institute of Politics.
