Newswise — ESSEX, NY – In seven virtual sessions taught by national education experts, global non-profit CFES Brilliant Pathways is equipping advisors with the latest strategies to reach underserved students through College and Career Readiness (CCR) Advisor Training.

A recent survey of 5,300 middle and high school counselors reported that they wanted to help students graduate high school and attend college but lacked necessary resources and time.

CFES is stepping up with nearly 30 years of experience training qualified professionals through its Core Practices programming initiatives, having helped 100,000 underrepresented students graduate high school and move on to post-secondary education.

This new age of virtual learning presents dynamic challenges, particularly for rural schools, which comprise 25% of those served by CFES. Through virtual CCR training, CFES aims to help close the digital divide with trained, certified advisors ready to meet schools and students right where they are.

Training teachers, coaches, business leaders, community members, college students and retirees in a “21st century classroom,” the program gives participants the tools to support students, covering topics ranging from current events and mentoring to paying for college.

Participants will receive a certificate of competition from University of Vermont (UVM) and CFES Brilliant Pathways.

CCR Advisor Training Sessions are as follows:

  • Session 1: Opening (Live)
  • Session 2: Value of Mentoring
  • Session 3: Essential Skills
  • Session 4: College Readiness & Paying for College
  • Session 5: Career Readiness
  • Session 6: Topics of Today
  • Session 7: Closing (Live)

The next session of CFES’ CCR Advisor Training begins with a LIVE session today, Aug. 25, and concludes with another LIVE session on Aug. 31. During the five days in between, participants have the flexibility to complete the remaining sessions offline and at their convenience.

The set of seven sessions will take place monthly. For October, professionals have the option to attend CFES’ three-day virtual National Conference Oct. 27-29, “College and Career Readiness in a New World,” integrating that month’s sessions.

“CFES Brilliant Pathways is addressing unprecedented changes in education by doubling down on our mission to help students realize their college and career dreams,” said CFES President and CEO Rick Dalton. “Virtual learning models are paving the way of the future and CFES is ready to support students through agility and perseverance as they continue on the path toward academic and professional success.”
