Newswise — LOS ANGELES – Keck Medicine of USC has named Vivian Mo, MD, chief medical officer (CMO) of USC Care Medical Group, effective Feb. 4, 2019. Mo is a clinical associate professor of medicine at the Keck School of Medicine of USC in the division of cardiology. In her role as CMO, Mo will oversee quality and patient safety throughout Keck Medicine’s ambulatory network and empower physicians in the USC Care Medical Group to provide seamless, high standards of patient care.

“Dr. Mo comes to this position with tremendous dedication to Keck Medicine of USC and a passion for driving quality improvement across the enterprise,” says Smitha Ravipudi, MPH, chief operating officer of USC Care Medical Group. “Working with our clinical chairs, Dr. Mo will lead our ongoing efforts to improve care, including patient access, clinic flow, the electronic medical record system and the overall patient experience.”

With Keck Medicine since 2007, Mo has a clinical practice in cardiology and includes a specialty in echocardiography. Pursuing her interest in health care redesign and process improvement, she obtained a master’s degree in health administration at USC in 2017. As an active physician leader in the Keck Medicine community, she most recently championed the care delivery redesign effort for heart failure and cardiology services and the optimization of the ambulatory electronic medical record system.

“With the medical center’s high volume of referred and transferred patients, we are always looking for ways to efficiently deliver quality care in the clinics and in our hospital, and ensure that patients are appropriately and safely discharged while bridging the gap from patient discharge to patient follow-up” says Mo, who succeeds Kiran Dhanireddy, MD.

Prior to joining USC, Mo completed internal medicine and cardiology training at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas and earned a medical degree at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston.

Mo’s interest in taking on her new role grew from her own experience as a clinician.

“As a physician, I feel very rewarded working face-to-face with patients but understand that making that interaction happen requires effective and efficient workflow processes,” Mo says. “One of my goals as CMO is to improve that workflow so my colleagues are able to focus on providing exceptional patient care.”
