Newswise — All that's left in this long political campaign is to cast and count the votes. But given the turmoil surrounding the process of the last two Presidential elections, that is far from a trivial point.

"The candidates have been nominated, positions staked out and turnout efforts are in high gear," says Hall. "Getting voters to turn out in this historical election is one thing, but making sure their turn-out matters will be critical in the weeks ahead.

"There is still time to review areas where problelms may crop up and focus on what might still be done to mitigate possible snags in what will undoubtedly be another close race."

Hall is an assistant professor of political science at the University of Utah and co-author of three books on elections: Election Fraud (Brookings Institution Press, 2008), Electronic Elections: the Perils and Promises of Digital Democracy (Princeton University Press, 2008) and Point, Click and Vote: the Future of Internet Voting (Brookings Institution Press, 2004). In addition, he has written and presented many articles on voter confidence, election reform and election audits.
