The Center for Financial Policy (CFP) at the University of Maryland’s Robert H. Smith School of Business and UBS present “Social Transmission Bias in Economics and Finance,” a webinar from 9-10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, 2020. 

CFP Director and Bank of America Professor of Finance at Maryland Smith Russell Wermers and David Hirshleifer, Distinguished Professor of Finance and Merage Chair in Business Growth at UC Irvine, will discuss how social transmission bias in economics and finance and how it affects social processes shaping economic thinking and behavior. Hirschleifer is noted for using “fables” (models) to illustrate the novelty and scope of the transmission bias approach and offers several emergent themes which can help explain booms, bubbles, return anomalies, and swings in economic sentiment.
