ALBANY, N.Y. (Oct 28, 2020) – With Election Day approaching, the COVID-19 crisis, a polarized electorate, absentee voting and the current state of the economy are just some of the potential challenges that are looming.
The University at Albany has numerous experts who can speak on a variety of election issues that are important to voters.
Experts include:
- Carl Bon Tempo, associate professor of history, teaches courses in 20th century American political history, public policy history, immigration history and the history of American foreign policy. Bon Tempo's current research focuses on human rights politics and policies in the U.S. from the 1970's to the present.
- Michael Malbin, professor of political science, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, specializes in campaigns and elections (especially the role of money in politics) as well as the politics of the U.S. Congress. He teaches UAlbany's “Semester in Washington” and is executive director of the Campaign Finance Institute, an independent non-partisan think tank in Washington D.C.
- Julie Novkov, professor of political science and women’s studies, Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy, focuses on the intersection of law, history, U.S. political development, and subordinated identity. She views law as both a system of political and social control and as a site for reform through activists’ pressure.
- Adrian Masters, chair and professor of economics, is an expert in labor economics, macroeconomics, labor market policies, minimum wages and unemployment. He has used his research approach to study labor markets, marriage, intermediation and the role of money in society.
- David Turetsky, professor of practice, College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security and Cybersecurity, has more than 35 years of experience in business, government and law. Turetsky is an expert in cybersecurity and can speak on national security concerns around elections. He was a political appointee in two administrations and has decades of experience in election day voter protection.
