Newswise — (Edison, NJ – May 27, 2020) Hackensack Meridian Health is joining medical centers across the United States to start a country-wide movement of physical activity to honor and support frontline health care workers who have worked tirelessly to save lives. Spearheaded by Mount Sinai Health System, #FitForTheFrontLine is a national fitness challenge which began on Tuesday, May 26, and ends on Sunday, June 14 (Flag Day). The event encourages Americans young and old to move, exercise and get fit to increase awareness and raise funds to support our nation’s health care heroes.

Over the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, the front line of nurses, doctors, scientists and other support staff has met the historic challenge in the war against the virus. Now, the #FitForTheFrontLine challenge empowers all Americans to take part during this still-challenging time. The call to action is simple: choose any activity; dedicate your activity to #FitForTheFrontLine at Hackensack Meridian Health; post the donation link (www.flow.page/hmhnewjersey); and ask for pledges of support.

“Unfortunately, COVID-19 will not be vanquished overnight,” says Robert C. Garrett. “Our frontline workers will continue to care for patients impacted by this virus, as well as those with long-term effects. These brave heroes may yet be called upon again to face future outbreaks, which is why they need our show of support now. We are thrilled to participate in this initiative with some of the nation’s most prestigious health care systems and hope that everyone will join us in rallying around our health care heroes.”

#FitForTheFrontline partner medical centers include Mount Sinai Health System, Baylor College of Medicine, BJC HealthCare, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Cedars-Sinai, Cleveland Clinic, Columbia University Irving Medical Center, Hackensack Meridian Health, Johns Hopkins Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Mayo Clinic, MedStar Health, Michigan Medicine, Montefiore Einstein, NewYork-Presbyterian, Northwell Health Foundation, Northwestern Medicine, NYU Langone Health, Penn Medicine, RWJBarnabas Health, Temple Health, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, University of Chicago Medicine, UW Medicine, Washington University in St. Louis, Weill Cornell Medicine and Yale New Haven Health.
