Chrysothemis Brown Receives a 2021 Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy Award

Chrysothemis (Chryssie) Brown, MBBS, PhD, was recently awarded a 2021 Parker Institute for Cancer Immunotherapy (PICI) award. Dr. Brown joins a class of early career researchers who are pursuing ideas that have the potential to change the face of oncology. With this financial support, this year’s six awardees will work to advance their boldest idea and receive guidance from and collaboration with PICI’s world-class network of immunotherapy experts. Dr. Brown’s research is focused on how different dendritic cells influence tumor progression and response to immunotherapy. By better understanding the immune system of pediatric patients, Dr. Brown hopes to identify new immunotherapy targets to elicit responses to solid tumors in children.

MSK Researcher Named to Newest Class of American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering College of Fellows

Daniel A. Heller, PhD was really announced a new member of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) Fellow Class of 2021. Comprised of the top two percent of medical and biological engineers in the country, Fellows are the most accomplished and distinguished engineering and medical school chairs, research directors, professors, innovators, and successful entrepreneurs.

Dr. Heller was nominated, reviewed, and elected by peers and members of the College of Fellows for outstanding contributions to nanotechnology for drug delivery and biosensors.

Imam Yusuf Hasan Receives a 2021 Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarian Award

Al-Hajji Imam Yusuf F. Hasan, BCC, a staff chaplain, was recently named a Who’s Who Humanitarian Awardee from Marquis Who’s Who. From health care to international outreach, Marquis Who’s Who Humanitarians are individuals who strive to make a positive impact on their communities and the world.

Monique Hodge Receives a 2020 DAISY Award

MSK Nurse Monique Hodge is a recipient of a 2020 DAISY Award sponsored by the DAISY Foundation. This annual award rewards and recognizes the extraordinary clinical skill and compassionate care provided by nurses every day.

Lillian Reilly Receives an American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy Clinical Excellence Award

MSK Nurse Lillian Reilly is a recipient of an American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) Clinical Excellence Award. The Clinical Excellence Award is presented annually to a nurse who has made a significant impact in the field of bone marrow transplant nursing or achieved a professional milestone.

Sisi Chen Awarded an American Society of Hematology Restart Grant

Sisi Chen, PhD, is a recipient of an American Society of Hematology (ASH) Restart award. These newly created awards help reduce the impact that the global COVID-19 pandemic response has had on the progression of research and careers for early career scientists in hematology. Dr. Chen is a research scholar in the Abdel-Wahab lab where a team of scientists work side-by-side to better understand and target the somatic mutations driving hematologic malignancies, as well as the functional implication of mutations in spliceosomal proteins and epigenetic regulators in hematologic malignancies.

Helena Yu Awarded Inaugural EGFR Resisters/LUNGevity Lung Cancer Research Award

Physician-scientist Helena Yu, MD, received a 2021 EGFR Resisters/LUNGevity Lung Cancer Research Award for her work aimed at developing new treatments for people who are diagnosed with EGFR-positive lung cancer. Co-founded by the LUNGevity Foundation and EGFR-Resisters, a grassroots patient-led group, the newly founded funding program seeks to substantially improve outcomes for those living with non-small cell lung cancer whose tumors have this mutation.
