With the CDC issuing new guidance supporting visits and unmasked small family gatherings among those who have completed their vaccinations, we are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But peeling back mask-wearing mandates, which is happening in Texas and elsewhere, is the wrong move, said Dr. Jennifer Horney, co-founder of the epidemiology program at the University of Delaware.

Dr. Horney, one of the leading experts following the pandemic since it began, said officials should stick to the game plan that got us this far.

"States should continue to focus on mitigation measures that we know work for the next several months until we can reach all those eligible to be vaccinated," she said.
