“Since the idea of the Spanish legislation is to right the wrong done to one of the minority populations of pre-modern Spain it is ironic that the initiative does not include another group that eventually suffered the same fate: descendants of Iberian Muslims and those originally of Muslim background - moriscos - who were coerced or forced to into exile during the end of the fifteenth century to shortly after the turn of the seventeenth in the ongoing effort to ‘purify’ the country of ‘foreign blood.’”
