Daniel Morgan, MD, MS, an associate professor of Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, is available to discuss medical overuse, a growing problem estimated to represent as much as 30% of provided medical services in the United States. Despite the recognition overuse has received in recent years, our understanding of its scope, drivers and effect on patients remains limited. Even the definition of the term overuse is not well understood. (Closely related terms for overuse, often used as synonyms, include overutilization, overmedicalization, overdiagnosis and overtreatment).

As such, Dr. Morgan and colleagues developed a research agenda, published in the British Medical Journal on August 25, 2015, that outlines a strategy for studying medical overuse and developing common terminology. Dr. Morgan will also discuss his research agenda at the Preventing Overdiagnosis Conference on September 1, 2015, in Bethesda, Maryland.

Dr. Morgan is available for interviews upon request.
