Researchers in the Jerome J. Lohr Stuctures Laboratory conduct strength testing on a double-tee girder salvaged from a 45-year-old decommissioned bridge. The girder is 50 feet long and 46 inches wide. As part of a new national U.S. Department of Transportation center, South Dakota State University researchers will determine how to retrofit and extend the life of existing bridges and roads and develop new construction techniques.
