Newswise — Irvine, Calif. – (November 4, 2014) – Anders Yang, J.D., will join UC Irvine’s Paul Merage School of Business as assistant dean of External Relations, effective November 19, 2014. In this newly created role, Yang will collaborate directly with Eric Spangenberg, the recently appointed dean of the Merage School, to create and implement plans to acquire private support for the Merage School, including gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations. Yang will also be responsible for providing leadership, management and direction to the Merage School External Relations team, which includes Development, Corporate Relations, and Alumni Relations personnel.

“Anders is a wonderful addition to our team here at the Merage School,” said Spangenberg. “His leadership and expertise in external relations and fundraising are invaluable assets as we embark on our journey to redefine business education and expand the reach and influence of our programs on a global scale.”

Recognized for his success in fundraising, Yang joins the Merage School from UCLA where he served as associate dean of the Office of Development for the Anderson School of Management. During his tenure at UCLA, Yang exceeded business school fundraising goals of $20 million and $25 million in consecutive years and was part of a campus wide team achieving record fundraising exceeding $550 million in 2013-2014. “The Merage School has set its sights high,” said Spangenberg. “With Anders on board, we are well positioned for success.”

About Anders Yang, J.D.Before joining the Paul Merage School of Business, Yang served as associate dean at the UCLA Anderson School of Management, overseeing the Office of Development. Prior to his position at UCLA, Yang held leadership roles in advancement at UCSF and UC Berkeley. Previously, Yang worked for Harvard University in a variety of roles - in Cambridge and subsequently in California. Most recently he served as the founding director for Harvard Law School's (HLS) western regional campaign office in San Francisco. He also held positions at HLS in alumni relations, admissions, externships and clinical legal education. In addition, Yang worked for Harvard University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, traveling to Asia regularly to engage alumni and supporters of Harvard College and the Graduate School.

Yang grew up in Orange County, California. He is an honors graduate of UC Berkeley and Harvard Law School. Prior to his career in academic administration, Anders was an attorney with Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom and a member of the California Bar. He was recently named to the board of CTBC Bank (USA).
