Area Student Named to Board of New York State Higher Education Services Corporation

TROY, N.Y. - Anne Marie Lisuzzo '04, a 19-year-old sophomore from Albany, has been appointed by Governor George Pataki and the New York State Senate as a student member of the board of trustees of the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC), the state agency that helps people pay for college.

On the board, which handles more than $2.2 billion in student loans each year, Lisuzzo will represent needs at private colleges and universities.

"Money is tight on college campuses, no matter where you are," said Lisuzzo, a recipient of college loans and a state Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) grant. "This will be a great opportunity for me to bring my student loan and grant experiences to the corporate board room."

Lisuzzo, a management major, is one of three student representatives on the 13-member HESC board. The three other students represent the state and New York City university system and community colleges on the board, which sets HESC policy. Lisuzzo's unpaid term begins with the HESC board meeting May 15 in Albany.

"HESC is fortunate to have such high-caliber students on our board of trustees and Anne Marie's enthusiasm and new ideas will keep this corporation in touch with the hundreds of thousands of students it serves," said HESC President Peter Keitel.

"We are all so proud of Anne Marie and know she will represent well all private university and college students across the state in her role as a spokesperson on the HESC board," said Jim Stevenson, director of financial aid at Rensselaer.

President of her freshman and sophomore classes, Lisuzzo has a 3.85 grade point average, and serves as a Red & White ambassador, representing Rensselaer at campus and community functions. She has served on the Town of Colonie Youth Board Advisory Council and has coordinated events for incoming freshmen at Rensselaer.
