Newswise — University of Arkansas political scientist Janine Parry is available to comment on the Mike Huckabee candidacy from a unique standpoint.

For the past nine years, Parry has conducted the statewide Arkansas Poll and has examined data related to the public perception of Huckabee in his home state. Data are broken down by party, church attendance, sex, age, race/ethnicity and other variables.

"Mike Huckabee has moved from a third-tier to a first-tier candidate for the reasons my graduate students predicted he would 18 months ago: he's the only one in the Republican field to have the Christian evangelical credentials so important in the primary, yet he also has the bipartisan, 'pragmatic conservative' record useful in a general election," Parry said.

Parry is an associate professor of political science at the University of Arkansas.
