Newswise — A college education is supposed to prepare students for a job, but a Clemson University expert says, in order to succeed, students should view college as a job.

Lamont Flowers, distinguished professor of educational leadership and director of the Charles H. Houston Center for the Black Experience in Education at Clemson University, is the coauthor of "Thinking Like A+ Winner," a self-help book for high school and college students.

"When you think of college as a job, the classroom is your office, your professors are your employers and your time is an important resource," Flowers said.

Flowers' book offers other helpful tips for students, including how to take quality lecture notes, listen effectively in class and prepare for exams. The book addresses time management as well as emotional and psychological strategies that can help students with their studies.

The book is designed to help college students who had difficulty with academics in high school and college students who might currently be having academic trouble.
