Award-winning television journalist and talk show host Charlie Rose will deliver the commencement address to 1,300 graduates and 4,200 guests of the C.W. Post Campus of Long Island University on Sunday, May 9, 1999. C.W. Post ˆ a private, co-educational institution of higher learning located in Brookville, NY ˆ has awarded more than 80,000 degrees in its 45-year history.

Charlie Rose will deliver his commencement address during the main ceremony which kicks off at 9:40 a.m. on Sunday. Rose has introduced millions of viewers to some of the most interesting people of our time. He does it every weeknight in an unadorned Public Television studio where he goes face to face with world leaders, newsmakers, authors, movie stars and lesser-knowns with a tale to tell.

Rose entered television journalism in 1974 as managing editor of the PBS series 3Bill Moyers1 International Report.2 In 1976, he won a Peabody Award for work on 3Bill Moyers1 Journal.2 After two years with Moyers and eight more as an interviewer or news anchor for television stations in Dallas, Chicago and Washington, he took over 3Nightwatch,2 the CBS late-night interview show, winning an Emmy, along with what some have called a cult following. In 1991, Rose returned to his true love -- the personal interview -- and began producing 3Charlie Rose2 and other programs. Since then, he has earned another Emmy, a Cable Ace Award and a growing prime-time following on the new CBS broadcast, 360 Minutes II,2 where he serves as correspondent.

At the commencement ceremony, Rose will be awarded an Honorary Degree along with three other highly accomplished individuals: James Comer, a Yale University psychiatrist, social reformer and educator; Joseph H. Rothenberg, associate administrator for space flight at NASA and a graduate of C.W. Post (å73, å78); and Ed Shorin, a retired vice president from The Topps Chewing Gum Company and former chairman of the C.W. Post1s Hutton House Lectures Advisory Board.
