Newswise — Clarkson University has kicked off a $225 million fundraising campaign, E2E (Evolution to Excellence).

Campaign co-chairs and Clarkson alumni John M. Brilbeck '68 and Kevin T. Parker '81 announced that the University has already raised $184 million during the advance phase, or 82 percent of the campaign goal. The campaign is scheduled to conclude at the end of 2014.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome back our alumni and friends who are strongly committed to the outstanding educational experience for students and world-changing innovation at Clarkson that spans boundaries across all of our schools, institutes, departments and research centers," said Clarkson President Tony Collins. "With the continued support and generosity of our donors, we will continue to advance critical construction projects, improve the excellence of our faculty, grow our pool of scholarship aid and provide many other value-added opportunities that, taken together, realize the vision of a Clarkson education."

The strategic priorities of the E2E campaign are:

- Academic Excellence (faculty support, program support and sponsored research)- Facilities (campus beautification, buildings, classrooms, laboratories and athletic venues)- The Clarkson Fund (unrestricted support of current operations)- Financial Aid (undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships)- Hockey/Athletics (Cheel Arena renovations, Division I hockey scholarships and athletic program support)

"In so many ways, Clarkson has never been stronger," said Parker. "And so, we launch the E2E Campaign from a position of strength. This is our moment to shape Clarkson’s future, as one of the nation’s most respected and most unique universities. We should view our generosity as a form of time travel: give today and you will help realize a vision of tomorrow for Clarkson, our region, our nation and our world."

The initial achievement of the E2E Campaign is due in large measure to the generosity of leadership donors -- those who have committed gifts of $100,000 or more. Parker paid special recognition to 124 individual donors and 39 organizations, whose leadership gifts have propelled the campaign to its great early success.

"Why would a relatively new trustee sign on as co-chair of the largest fundraising campaign in Clarkson’s history?" said Brilbeck, who, like Parker, is a Clarkson trustee. "Like so many thousands of others, Clarkson provided me with an exceptional education and a terrific preparation for my career. To a very significant extent, I feel that I owe Clarkson for my success. I’m very grateful for that and getting involved as a trustee and campaign leader presented an opportunity to express my gratitude. I have watched Clarkson grow and prosper over the last four decades. It’s a very special learning and living community, one which I want to see continue to grow and prosper."

In his 2003 inaugural address, President Collins invited all of Clarkson's stakeholders to join him as Clarkson launched its long-range Evolution to Excellence strategic plan. He said then that Clarkson would build its future on three fundamental building blocks: academic excellence, marshalling of financial resources and alumni engagement.

Eight years later and buoyed by multiple successes in these areas, Clarkson is now accelerating its Evolution to Excellence to capitalize fully on its emerging national reputation for leading innovation and launching leaders for a global marketplace.
