UT School of Health Information Sciences at Houston:4 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2007Beth Robertson Auditorium, Fayez S. Sarofim Research Building, 1825 Pressler St.

Featured speaker will be C. Thomas Caskey, M.D., chief operating officer and director-/CEO-elect of the Brown Foundation Institute of Molecular Medicine for the Prevention of Human Diseases (IMM). Caskey was founding director of Houston-based Cogene Biotech Ventures and Cogene Ventures, and senior vice president for human genetics and vaccine discovery at Merck Research Laboratories and president of the Merck Genome Research Institute.

UT School of Public Health at Houston:2 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2007Edwin Hornberger Conference Center, 2151 W. Holcombe Blvd.

Commencement speaker will be Houston Mayor Bill White. Now in his second term, Mayor White has assembled a task force of experts, including UT School of Public Health faculty, to help with ongoing efforts to reduce air quality health risks in Harris County.

UT School of Nursing at Houston:7 p.m., Friday, May 4, 2007George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

Principal speaker will be Texas First Lady Anita Perry. Perry, who earned a master's degree in nursing from the UT Health Science Center at San Antonio, spent a 17-year career in the health care profession that included nursing in the areas of surgery, pediatrics, intensive care and administration.

UT Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston:10 a.m., Saturday, May 5, 2007

Edwin Hornberger Conference Center, 2151 West Holcombe Blvd.Principal speaker will be Robert Wells, Ph.D., professor of biochemistry and biophysics and director of the Center for Genome Research at the Institute for Biosciences and Technology, which is part of the Texas A&M University System Health Science Center. More than 80 graduate degrees will be bestowed.

UT Dental Branch at Houston:4 p.m., Thursday, May 24, 2007Cullen Performance Hall on the University of Houston campus

Speaking will be University of Texas System Chancellor Mark Yudof, LL.B. Yudof is chief administrative officer of one of the nation's largest higher education systems " which has an annual operating budget of $10 billion and educates three-fourths of the state's health care professionals annually.

UT Medical School at Houston:7 p.m., Tuesday, May 29, 2007George R. Brown Convention Center, 1001 Avenida de las Americas

More than 200 students are expected to receive their medical degrees. Principal speaker will be Wiley W. "Chip" Souba Jr., M.D., Sc.D., professor of surgery and dean of the College of Medicine at Ohio State University. Souba is a 1978 graduate of the UT Medical School. In addition to a research interest in the molecular regulation of glutamine transport, he also studies leadership in academic medical centers.

The UT Health Science Center at Houston, founded in 1972, is a health institution of The University of Texas System. It is a state-supported institution whose state funding is supplemented by competitive research grants, patient fees and private philanthropy.
