Newswise — U.S. Civilian Research & Development Foundation (CRDF), in conjunction with Partnership for a Secure America (PSA), the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), and the Commonwealth Club of California, will host a luncheon panel discussion on the importance of Science Diplomacy's role in U.S. foreign policy 12:00pm-1:30pm PDT today at the Rosewood Sand Hill in Menlo Park, CA.

This event coincides with the release of a bipartisan statement, signed by over two dozen prominent political and scientific leaders, urges the U.S. to utilize its scientific and technological strengths to deepen international partnerships and tackle global challenges.

The luncheon will feature remarks by former defense secretary William Perry, Nobel laureate Dr. David Baltimore (invited), senior fellow and former Los Alamos National Laboratory Director Dr. Siegfried Hecker, and SciClone Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Cynthia Tuthill.

Respect for American science and technology is evident even in regions where there are strong negative views of U.S. foreign policies. Students from around the world still flock to attend American colleges and universities. As the U.S. seeks to promote our national security interests overseas, utilizing this strength is an effective tool for diplomacy.
