Baltimore Colts Kick-Off Dental Museum's Sports and Dentistry Exhibition

The Dr. Samuel D. Harris National Museum of Dentistry unveils its newest exhibition, "Watch Your Mouth! Sports & Dentistry," on Friday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. at the University of Maryland Baltimore located at 31 South Greene Street. The exhibition highlights the dentist's role in sports, from provider of facial protection to athletic participant. There will be a reception, open to media featuring former Colts Bruce Laird, Adrian Mehrling, Elmer Wingate, Sam Havrilak, DDS, and team trainer John Lopez.

The exhibition's public opening is Saturday, October 7 from 10 am until 2 pm and will include live appearances from professional lacrosse player, Mark Millon, a production by Eric Beatty, a discussion by the U.S. Men's and Women's Soccer Team dentists on wearing mouthguards, a treasure hunt, and a crafts booth. The 1972 Baltimore Colts were the first NFL team to institute wearing custom mouthguards as mandatory part of team uniform. Colt's individual and team photos will be on display in the gallery in addition to professional sports helmets, uniforms, awards, 2000 Olympic mouthguards and sports magazines.

"Watch Your Mouth!" will be on display until March 31, 2001.

Admission is discounted to $3 per person, and children wearing their team uniform will be admitted for only $1. Ages 6 and under are admitted free.

Hours of operation are Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 4 pm and Sunday, 1 pm to 4 pm.
