Expert On Contemporary Literature Available To Comment When Nobel Prize In Literature Announced

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. -- Michael Gorra, professor of English at Smith College and the author of "The English Novel at Mid-Century" and "After Empire: Scott, Naipaul, Rushdie," is available for comment when the Nobel Prize in Literature is announced.

A regular contributor to The New York Times Book Review, Times Literary Supplement and other journals, Gorra teaches courses on English and American fiction "from Jane Austen to last week."

His recent writings include reviews and commentaries on Harold Bloom, A.S. Byatt, J.M. Coetzee, Don DeLillo, Richard Ford, Nadine Gordimer, Kazuo Ishiguro, Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje, Arundhati Roy and Paul Theroux. He is currently at work on a book about travel writing.

Gorra has an A.B. from Amherst College and a Ph.D. from Stanford University. He has taught at Smith College since 1985.
