Newswise — SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga University School of Business Administration will present a conversation with John C. Williams, Ph.D., president and CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, from 10-11:15 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 7 in the Jepson Center’s Wolff Auditorium. The event is free and open to the public.

Williams will offer brief opening remarks before opening the floor to questions from the audience. During his visit to campus, Williams also will meet with students, faculty, administrators and Gonzaga President Thayne McCulloh.

Williams has published many articles in leading research journals and has collaborated with economists across the country and globe. His research focuses on monetary policy under uncertainty, innovation, productivity, and business cycles.

In his role at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, Williams serves on the Federal Open Market Committee, representing the Twelfth District’s perspective to policy discussions in Washington. The Twelfth District includes Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Guam, American Samoa, and the Northern Mariana Islands. Additionally, he is managing editor of the International Journal of Central Banking.

Williams earned his Ph.D. in economics from Stanford University, a master’s of science with distinction in economics from the London School of Economics and a bachelor’s degree with high distinction from the University of California at Berkeley.

In 1994 Williams began working as the economist at the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, and joined the San Francisco bank in 2002 as the vice president and director of research. He was previously the associate editor of the American Economic Review and was the senior economist at the White House Council of Economic Advisers and a lecturer at Stanford’s Graduate School of Business.
