Beck's Futures 20034 April - 18 May 2003ICA Galleries

The ICA and Beck's collaborate for the fourth year to present a major exhibition and the UK's largest art prize worth £65,000, that identifies, supports and promotes some of the most promising contemporary artists working in Britain.

The shortlisted artists are Bernd Behr, Nick Crowe, Alan Currall, Inventory, Rosalind Nashashibi, David Sherry, Lucy Skaer, Francis Upritchard, Carey Young

The judges - Michael Landy, Russell Ferguson, Maria Lind And Hans Ulrich Obrist will choose the winner of this year's Beck's Futures on 29 April, 2003.

"Anna Sanders Films is part of 'Made in Paris: Photo/Video', a season of French photography and video taking place in London during May and June 2003. Anna Sanders Films brings together two features films and three shorts from leading French artists working at the forefront of the current convergence of visual art and cinema.

The films include the international premiere of Shimkent Hotel, co-written by Charles de Meaux. Philippe Parreno also shows a 1 minute film which was shot on a Norwegian island near the North Pole and Dominique Gonzales-Foerster screens three shorts, including Riyo, a flirtatious telephone conversation between two teenagers shot along the River Kamo in Kyoto, Japan.

The screenings will be accompanied by a talk event featuring the artists.

VIDEO ACTS: single channel works from the collections of Pamela and Richard Kramlich and New Art Trust.

Video Acts is a rare opportunity to see gathered together major performance-based art works recorded in video format spanning the last 35 years. Included are numerous landmarks in the development of performance video by, among others, Marina Abramovic, Vito Acconci, Bruce Nauman, William Wegman and Pipilotti Rist. This exhibition provides the indispensable historical context within which the explosion of contemporary video art can be understood.

Video Acts is currently showing to critical acclaim at the P.S.1 Contemporary Art Centre, an affiliate of the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

Foreign Office Architects (FOA), formed by Alejando Zaera Polo and Farshid Moussavi, is an international practice of architecture and urban design, dedicated to the exploration of contemporary urban conditions, lifestyles and construction technologies.

Alejando Zaera Polo and Farshid Moussavi were born in Spain and Iran respectively. They graduated from Harvard University before working under Rem Koolhaas in Rotterdam, and established FOA in 1992. Their projects span a number of international cities including Florence, Barcelona, London, Amsterdam, Seoul, Toronto and Yokohama.

Completed projects have included a private residence in London, 1998, a series of new Belgo restaurants in Bristol, London and New York, 1998-9 and a temporary railway station canopy in the Netherlands, 2001. Since winning the competition for the Yokohoma International Ferry Terminal in 1994, FOA's original plan has received great critical acclaim and the project, their most ambitious so far, was finally completed in 2002 and has further established their international reputation. Current projects include the Zona Franca office park in Barcelona, a department store in the UK, a police station complex in La Villa Joyosa, Spain and a publishing headquarters in Paju City, Korea.

FOA represented Britain at the 8th Venice Architecture Biennale, 2002.

The exhibition at the ICA will explore the last ten years of FOA's projects in their wider context, both internal and external. This will include client relationships, local building regulations, sites and specific influences on their work such as music, film and literature.
