Newswise — What makes a top scientist tick? How did he or she cope in high school? Why is physics research so fascinating? Canada's Perimeter Institute offers online videos known as "Meet a Scientist" in order to share personal insights from theoretical physicists with youth who may be thinking about their own futures in science. In addition, PI provides a number of scientific presentations " ranging from quantum theory to cosmology " recorded at the popular International Summer School for Young Physicists (ISSYP). There aren't enough spots at this popular summer camp to meet demand, so this new online compilation of talks has been created. A number of other public lectures and teacher resources are available throughout Perimeter Institute's outreach web pages.

To see the free clips and presentations for yourself visit: http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/en/Outreach/Students/Meet_a_Scientist/ and http://www.perimeterinstitute.ca/en/Outreach/Students/Virtual_ISSYP/.

Coming in October 2009, PI's Quantum to Cosmos: Ideas for the Future festival will offer even more resources for students including animated videos and a series of talks focused on "thinking like a physicist" . Full details are available at www.q2cfestival.com.

About Perimeter Institute

Canada's Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics is an independent, non-profit, scientific research and educational outreach organization where international scientists cluster to push the limits of our understanding of physical laws and develop new ideas about the very essence of space, time, matter and information. The centre provides a multi-disciplinary environment to foster scientific collaboration in research areas of cosmology, particle physics, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, quantum information, superstring theory, and related disciplines. PI also provides a wide array of award-winning outreach resources and public lectures for students, teachers and the general public to share the joy of research, discovery and innovation. In partnership with the Governments of Ontario and Canada, PI continues to be a successful example of private and public collaboration in science research and education. www.perimeterinstitute.ca
