Author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. To Address Agnes Scott College Commencement

(ATLANTA, April 15) -- Acclaimed author Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. will give the address at Agnes Scott College's 110th commencement exercises at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 15.

Vonnegut's career spans five decades, filled with short stories and novels. Among Vonnegut's novels are Slaughterhouse Five, his first bestseller and movie, The Sirens of Titan and Breakfast of Champions. His most recent work Timequake was issued by Putnam in 1997 and was billed as Vonnegut's "first full-length work in seven years, since the novel Hocus Pocus (1990)." In 1996, Mother Night (1962) also went to the silver screen, starring Nick Nolte, Alan Arkin, John Goodman and a cameo appearance by Vonnegut himself.

Vonnegut is the winner of the literary award (1970) from the National Institute of Arts and Letters. He has taught at the Iowa Writer's Workshop (1965-67), was a lecturer at Harvard University (1970) and Distinguished Professor at the City College of New York (1973-74). In 1971, Vonnegut received an M.A. in anthropology from the University of Chicago. He now resides in New York City.
