Newswise — If you've ever wondered why people decorate their homes with Christmas trees during the holidays or wanted to know the difference between a Scots pine, a Douglas fir and a balsam fir, the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF) has a free brochure with the answers.
"Today's Christmas Trees: From the Land to Your Home," explains how evergreen trees came to be a holiday tradition, and how to select and care for a fresh-cut Christmas tree. The pamphlet is part of the "Environmental Information Series," a public service effort by ESF.
Copies of "Today's Christmas Trees: From the Land to Your Home" are available online at http://www.esf.edu/pubprog/brochure/xmastree/xmastree.htm.Those without computer access may obtain one free copy of the pamphlet by sending a stamped, self-addressed business envelope along with a letter of request to: Office of News and Publications, SUNY-ESF, 1 Forestry Drive, Syracuse, NY 13210-2778.
School groups or other nonprofit organizations may receive a maximum of 20 copies of the brochure to use in classes by writing a letter or request on official school district or organization stationery.
