Newswise — Curators at the Jewish Museum of Maryland (JMM) are actively seeking objects, photographs, stories and memories about Levindale Hebrew Geriatric Center and Hospital in Baltimore, MD and its history over the last century.

The items and personal reflections collected and documented will be used for an exciting new exhibition being developed in partnership by the JMM and Levindale.

Specifically, exhibition curators are now seeking photographs of the building, residents, patients and staff; memorabilia from programs, events, and daily activities coordinated by the various departments within Levindale; clothing or linens made by the sewing committee; craft projects made by residents, as well as cards and letters written to and/or from residents; and old medical equipment to consider for use in the exhibition.

The museum is also collecting stories and memories about Levindale throughout the last century in the form of oral histories. Staff, board members, medical members, nursing teams, all employees, residents and families of residents are encouraged to share their recollections.

The opening of the exhibition will correspond to the opening of Levindale’s improved and expanded facility in early 2012, which will provide modern, elegant housing for seniors and will include an exhibition gallery with changing displays. The JMM’s exhibition on the history of Levindale will be the gallery’s inaugural show.

Members of the public interested in participating in this important and exciting initiative can contact Jobi Zink, project curator at the Jewish Museum of Maryland, at (410) 732-6400 ext. 226 or via e-mail at [email protected].
