Newswise — Andrew Dowdle, assistant professor of political science at the University of Arkansas, has studied the pre-primary period for the past eight presidential elections and is available to comment on the progress of candidates toward nomination.

In particular, he has examined the candidacy of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee.

"One thing I've looked at is the similarities between his campaign in Iowa and earlier campaigns he ran in Arkansas," Dowdle said. "For example, campaigning in both states is less driven by television and mass communication than races in other states."

In addition, Dowdle has researched the role of funds and fundraising in the pre-primary period, and he notes that a challenge Huckabee will face in later state primaries is the increasing need to raise funds.
