Newswise — Adonal Foyle, Colgate alumnus and Orlando Magic player, will speak to the Colgate community Tuesday, September 16 during two separate events: a brown bag lunch and evening lecture. An advocate of campaign finance reform, Foyle started Democracy Matters in 2001. The non-partisan organization gives students a voice in issues of democracy. With an active presence on over 50 college campuses nationwide, Democracy Matters involves hundreds of students and faculty in focusing on issues of campaign finance reform. For the Colgate alumnus, being able to vote has a very special meaning. That's because Foyle, a native of the tiny Caribbean island of Canouan, came to the United States when he was 15. In March 2007, he became a U.S. citizen. And in November, he'll be able to vote for the first time in a U.S. Presidential Election. Both events are free and open to the public. Founded in 1819, Colgate University is a highly selective, residential, liberal arts college enrolling nearly 2,800 undergraduates. Situated on a rolling 515-acre campus in central New York State, Colgate University attracts motivated students with diverse backgrounds, interests, and talents.
