Nichols Appointed To New Post With UMB Foundation
Mary A. Nichols has joined the new University of Maryland Baltimore Foundation, Inc. as assistant to the vice president.
The foundation was created in July to provide strategic and financial support specific to the campus. Private gifts now represent seven percent of the revenues received each year by UMB. Nichols will assist in communications between the foundation's board and friends of the University.
"This is a step forward for the foundation and the campus that will bring our fund raising to a new level," says T. Sue Gladhill, MSW, UMB vice president for external affairs and president and CEO of the foundation.
"Her wonderful experience at the School of Nursing will help Mary serve an even broader purpose at the foundation. She has extensive experience at a senior level in dealing with external constituents," says Judith S. Blackburn, PhD, MBA, UMB assistant vice president for resource management and foundation treasurer.
Nichols, former assistant to the dean of the University of Maryland School of Nursing and a longtime legislative aide, will coordinate the activities of the foundation and oversee constituent relations for its board. She worked at the School of Nursing for four years and her duties included acting as a liaison with federal, state and local officials.
Before coming to the University, Nichols served for 14 years as a legislative aide in Annapolis for the Howard County delegation, the chair of the House Appropriations Committee and the chair of the House Education and Economic Development Subcommittee.
She is a graduate of the College of Notre Dame of Maryland.
