CSM to host NSF conference
________________________

Colorado School of Mines has been selected by the National Science Foundation to host the Fall 1999 Regional Grants Conference, with an anticipated attendance of more than 300.

The Conference will be held October 14-16, 1999, at the Denver West Village Holiday Inn. The NSF Conference will coincide with the 33rd Annual Society of Research Administrators Annual Meeting also being held in Denver.

The conferences are designed to provide information for those doing business with NSF -- researchers, university administrators, and small businesses. Workshops and presentations by senior NSF officials and various program directors will be featured.

The focus of the conference will include:
* Proposal submissions and preparation
* NSF's funding and direction
* Grant awards
* Merit review process
* Cross-disciplinary and special interest programs

"CSM joins a list of prestigious universities who have hosted this conference including University of Pittsburgh, Georgetown University, UCLA and Cornell University. The conference is intended to draw primarily from the western states, but participants are expected from across the U.S.," said Phillip Romig, dean of graduate studies and research.
