New Brunswick, N.J. (June 27th, 2019) – Rutgers pollster Ashley Koning is available to comment on last night’s first Democratic debate and on New Jersey’s Democratic candidate, Cory Booker.

Ashley Koning is an expert in American public opinion, survey design, polling trends, and mass political behavior with a focus on gender and race. She is an assistant research professor at Rutgers University’s Eagleton Institute of Politics and the director of the institute’s Center for Public Interest Polling.

"Booker entered the debate polling in the single digits but finished the night with the most talking time and google searches, as well as a solid performance that showcased his talents,” she said.  “He played to his strengths on gun control and urban communities, found common ground with another rising star of the night, Julian Castro, and came out as a candidate to watch going forward according to a number of pundits.  Time will tell if Booker's performance will be forgotten after tonight’s debate or if it provides him any sign of a bump in the polls.  Either way, the senator has continued to receive some of the highest favorability and approval ratings compared to other political figures back home in the Garden State."
