Newswise — Secure World Foundation is pleased to announce the opening of a new office, strategically located in Brussels, Belgium, to help further the organization’s objectives in encouraging the sustainable uses of outer space.

In establishing a Brussels office, the opportunity for Secure World Foundation (SWF) to work together with leading European organizations that are formulating space policy is greatly enhanced, said Dr. Ray Williamson, SWF’s Executive Director.

“This new office will allow SWF to interact more directly with officials from the key European institutions such as the European Commission, the Council of Europe and the European Defence Agency,” Williamson said.

There have been many changes that have been happening in Europe ever since the Lisbon Treaty has been adopted, a process that has assisted in making the European Union more democratic, more transparent and more efficient, noted Agnieszka Lukaszczyk, Space Policy Consultant for Secure World Foundation in the new Brussels office.

“The European Union has gained competence in space with Brussels quickly becoming the center for European space policy and discussion of space security issues. It is ideal for SWF to establish a European office based in Brussels,” Lukaszczyk said.
