NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF SOCIAL WORKERS (NASW) ANNUAL MEETING TO BE HELD IN BALTIMORE, NOVEMBER 1-4, 2000

"Strategies to Succeed in the New Market Economy"

Ronald Dellums and Tyne Daly as Keynote Speakers

WASHINGTON--With Campaign 2000 unfolding and society changing faster than ever, social workers examine how managed care, aging, privacy and technology, as well as social security and children's mental health effect our day-to-day living. These issues will be prominent themes of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Annual Meeting.

Session highlights cover a wide range of social and mental health issues from understanding and treating shame as a driving force in excessive anxiety, the new world of living with HIV/AIDS, critical incident stress management in school settings, and healthcare in the 21st Century.

Keynote speaker Ronald Dellums, former U.S. Congressman, has been praised as one of the most compelling and articulate speakers to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives. Prior to his election to Congress in 1970, Dellums had a distinguished career as a psychiatric social worker, among other accomplishments. Dellums will be opening plenary speaker.

Tyne Daly, the most honored dramatic actress in Emmy history, will speak about her role as social worker Maxine Gray on CBS' Judging Amy. As this season's top-rated new drama, Judging Amy depicts true-to-life social work realities. Daly will be closing plenary speaker at the meeting

NASW President, Ruth Mayden, MSS, LSW will brief attendees on NASW's eletoral program, focusing specifically on Campaign 2000 and the decision on who will lead our country.
