WHO: High school students from around the world will compete in the 12th International Brain Bee Championship, demonstrating their knowledge of the brain on such topics as intelligence, emotions, memory, sleep, vision, hearing, sensation, Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, schizophrenia, addictions and brain research. WHAT: The competition involves oral and written tests, a neuroanatomy laboratory exam with human brains, an analysis of MRI imaging, an examination of brain tissues using microscopes and a patient diagnosis featuring student actors. The winner will receive $3,000, a trophy, and the right to represent the Brain Bee at other conferences and events.The purpose of the Brain Bee is to motivate young men and women to study the brain, and to inspire them to consider careers in the basic and clinical neurosciences. BACKGROUND: The American Psychological Association is co-sponsoring the 2010 Brain Bee during its 118th Annual Convention in San Diego.
